Knowsley Community College and St Helens College propose to merge to form a single institution.
The proposed brand name is: ‘St Helens and Knowsley College’, keeping reference to ‘college’ in the brand name, along with the geographical and community name locations.  The aim is to create a bold, contemporary and flexible brand that will aid the college group to achieve growth, respect and convey a strong identity.
Approach
The palette present in the logo is representative of the college buildings, it also gives an impression of the bright and bold way the college is marketed to its younger target audience, the more neutral colours gives a more professional and corporate feel, tying elements of the college group together.
Typography makes up a large part of a visual identity. Using the Interstate font family (as previously used in the St Helens College brand) allows the brand to be bold and expressive in it’s application though the use of titles and headers, to a fully legible body text.
With the majority of the ascenders (top) of the typeface having angled points this forms a great relationship with the icon.
The symbolic idea of the use of the equilateral triangle is that the vertical side represents ‘St Helens College’, the horizontal side represents ‘Knowsley Community College’ and the hypotenuse represents the new Group College brand… the offspring of the combining sides. The combination of one and another produces a new form of being altogether. The sharp structure of the triangles and the icon itself demonstrates the relationship between both main campus buildings which are geometrically structured.
Triangles create the strongest structures
The icon is the strongest part of the brand logo and is constructed with individual triangles.
Triangles in construction and architecture are known to create the strongest structures. The triangle also represents resilience. No matter how much pressure you put on any of its sides, it is impossible to break. It symbolises the strength of the College Group, built on a strong foundation with structure and stability.
